The lecture was well-organized. One improvement could be to provide more information on how to determine the tightness of the Control Limits. I thought it was great that we discussed and learned how to improve teamwork. Many times we have to work in team,in classes, and in other areas of life like work, etc. but we never get advice on how to work better in teams. Also the "meet before the meeting" was a great idea because when group members bring up concerns, ideas or probs. during the meeting, we dont always have time to think of the solution. But if we get to think it over before meeting, then during meetings we can be more productive.   This comment was left on 3/4/2008 10:11:40 PM.

The feedback on what our chart should have looked like was very helpful, as was the reminder that all calculated values should change if any data elements changed. This lecture was ok but as far as the class overall in every session, do you really have to handle administrative things during the class period. Administrative things such as reading questions from students or their evaluations. I don't see how this is useful to anyone in the class. I think you should ask if anyone has any questions or concerns, address them, but not in detail and then move on to the lecture.  This comment was left on 2/19/2008 5:33:20 PM.

When calculating the R value, and you use the =COUNTIF(C2:C19,0... method, I was not getting the same answer as when I used the other method where you denote the number of days missed and days kept and divide. I tried the COUNTIF method with a number 2 (instead of 1) as the variable, and got a different answer. When using this method, do you have to somehow note that the numbers could be 1-n?  This comment was left on 2/17/2008 2:43:46 AM.

The concept of counting days missed could be a little challenge, as it seems counter-intuitive. But once that's understood things the rest isn't too bad.  This comment was left on 2/16/2008 8:55:46 PM.

The description on how to calculate R was helpful (especially the pointer that R must always be less than 1). The fact that control charts can only be issed for dichotomous events is not helpful if you have more than 2 possible outcomes.  This comment was left on 2/13/2008 8:24:11 PM.

I thought the whole lecture introduced great tools for addressing improvement in TQM. I didn't like that there was no control of the class. I think some questions could have been discussed with the professor after class and then maybe we could move on to the lecture and ask relevant questions. Questions about the syllabus, how to access things on different sites, and how to use excel should be done on students own time not wasting valuable class time. For me being a customer to Dr. Alemi and to George Mason University, if I had to fill out a satisfaction survey it would not be a very good one. I have been having some difficulty with my group project (satisfaction survey). My team members do not have the same expectations in terms of quality of work and grades. I know this is an issue one faces with teams as a facilitator as well as a team member. The team members who just want to get by will have met their goals but the outcome of the team project (grade) impacts the individual who may want to do a good job with the project. In the absence of a team leader and facilitator it is difficult to have good team dynamics because the goals and work styles of the team members are not the same and there is no executive owner/facilitator who can make things happen….. If you intent was to illustrate to us the challenges and dynamics involved in team work you have succeeded.   This comment was left on 11/30/2007 12:50:41 PM.

I think people fail to score their list of interventions because in the directions you do not specify to score each one. All it says is: "Change slide: Include a slide showing possible changes you considered to make, the change you eventually made (must be a system change and not an increased effort)." You should probably alter this and say"describe why you did or did not choose each intervention.   This comment was left on 11/19/2007 9:15:55 PM.

Good presentation and reading material. However, it would have helped if the following issues were addressed somewhere in the lecture: 1) When the calculated UCL/LCL is nonsensical, should the maximum/minimum used in the chart instead? 2) The average for the observations was not determined from all the values but from one less than the total. While I understand the reasoning for using "n-1" in the average moving range, I am not sure why you ignore the last value when calculating the average OF THE OBSERVATIONS.   This comment was left on 11/13/2007 6:30:35 PM.
