Step 5 - Developing Intervention Strategies


This page contains a planning form to help you research appropriate resources for Step 5 in the Cultural Inquiry Process.  

  • Fill out the form and use the Submit Answers button at the bottom of the form to email it to yourself. 

  • When you receive the form in your inbox, keep it to help you follow through with your research plans.

  • You may forward the form from your inbox to your instructor(s) if you would like them to review your answers.  

  • If your research plans shift or expand, you can fill out a new form and submit it.

NOTE:

  • You must use your GMU email account to email the form.  If you have not activated your email account, go to http://mail.gmu.edu and click the Activating My Account button. (You'll need to supply your GMU student ID and pin number as part of the activation process.)

As you begin to develop intervention strategies in Step 5, you may want to re-read some of the resources you used in Steps 3 and 4 and look specifically for intervention ideas. Also, think about some of the different approaches that you could take including:

  • Home/School Connections
  • Classroom/Curricular Changes
  • Student-Centered Strategies
  • Teacher/Student Relationships
  • Peer/Social Interventions
  • School Support/Organizational Changes
Consider these and other options that best fit your student(s) and look for resources that will help you develop strategies in these areas.

Locating Resources

Find resources recommended by classmates, colleagues, or instructors
Follow links from the CIP Resources section
Use a university library database or search tool
Use an on-line search engine such as Google, Yahoo, etc.

  • to generate ideas for interventions by looking at similar CIP or published studies?
  • to identify useful teaching strategies from teaching methods books and materials?
  • to look at what strategies have been used in the past by other educators?

Integrating Resources

4) How will you need to integrate the resources?

  • What decisions or approaches do you need to justify?
  • What topics or issues need supporting evidence or information?
  • What methods have you used that need support?
  • What other ways did you use the resources in Step 5?
