Step 4 - Gather Information

This page contains a planning form to help you research appropriate resources for Step 4 in the Cultural Inquiry Process.  

  • Fill out the form and use the Submit Answers button at the bottom of the form to email it to yourself. 

  • When you receive the form in your inbox, keep it to help you follow through with your research plans.

  • You may forward the form from your inbox to your instructor(s) if you would like them to review your answers.  

  • If your research plans shift or expand, you can fill out a new form and submit it.

NOTE:

  • Fields displayed in red with an asterisk are required for emailing.

  • You must use your GMU email account to email the form.  If you have not activated your email account, go to http://mail.gmu.edu and click the Activating My Account button. (You'll need to supply your GMU student ID and pin number as part of the activation process.)

  • If you do not intend to use your GMU email account on a regular basis you can modify the account to automatically forward any incoming messages to your regular mailbox. (See the instructions in the Student Technology Guide.)    

 

As you begin to gather data about your puzzlement, think about the resources you already have and the areas in which you might need to find other resources to develop ideas for collecting data, to support your decisions and methods, and to provide background information on your focus student(s)' culture, characteristics, or needs.

Locating Resources

  • to look at similar studies on the CIP website or in published resources to gain ideas for data collection and analysis techniques?
  • to develop ideas about research methods using books on general educational research or teacher action research?

  • What decisions or approaches do you need to justify?
  • What topics or issues need supporting evidence or information?
  • What methods have you used that need support?
  • What other ways could you use the resources for this step?
