About Us
The George Mason University Arlington Campus is located in Arlington County, in what Arlingtonians call Virginia Square. This campus was created in 1979 when the Commonwealth of Virginia General Assembly authorized George Mason University to establish a law school. The following year the university established the graduate and continuing education programs and fine arts gallery at the Arlington Campus. The Arlington campus is minutes away from Washington, DC and is easily accessible by the Metro Rail and Metro Bus. Our location is an ideal place to host an event or seminar.
*The university is excited to be moving out on the ARL II project. Manhattan Construction Company was officially awarded the project - designed by the Smith Group – as of November 1, 2007. The current estimated project completion date is January 2010. ARL II will provide space for faculty offices, classroom and computer labs, a general purpose library, a 300-seat auditorium, as well as a large
multi-purpose room. Overall, the building is 256,000 SF and includes an outdoor plaza and a 160,000 SF parking structure below. The additional
programming space this building offers upon completion will enable the university to highlight and showcase much of the exciting work taking
place at the Arlington Campus - as well as throughout the university - through the hosting of conferences, meetings, and other events.
Due to the sheer magnitude and complexity of this project, the university has made an institutional decision to de-emphasize events during construction
of ARL II. Many challenges will be present during the building period which makes Arlington Campus a venue unfavorable for supporting events,
conferences, and large-scale meetings. Concerns associated with construction: increased noise issues, no parking availability, pedestrian
and circulation restrictions, disability access, power continuity, elevator/escalator service, and HVAC support, must be heeded as they are critical to ensuring a successful conference/meeting nvironment.
This university supported moratorium relating to events held at the Arlington campus will continue for the duration of ARL II construction. Units who
feel they have a compelling reason to seek an exception to this decision - and who feel it is critical that they hold their event at Arlington despite known accessibility and “environmental” concerns - are requested to petition the Vice President for Regional Campuses via: Jennifer

Thank you.
